Parashat Toldot, the Torah portion, tells the story of Isaac unwittingly giving his blessing to Jacob instead of Esau, stealing Esau’s blessing from their father Isaac. When Esau asks his father to bless him also, Isaac tells Jacob that he has used up his primo blessing, and Esau’s blessing is second rate! If Rebekkah had already been told by prophecy that Jacob would be the bearer of the family line, why was Isaac’s blessing so important? And why was there not enough blessing to go around for Esau, too? Together, we will celebrate shefa, the divine flow and an abundance of blessings. We will meet each other, learn ways that we are in need of support, explore ways Jews have written and expressed blessings from biblical times to today and then write and share our blessings with each other.
