The IAUJC Holocaust Speakers Bureau coordinates experienced speakers to meet the needs of local classrooms and the wider community. We seek out members (Jewish and non-Jewish) of our local community who have a connection to the Holocaust and help potential speakers to develop their talks and presentations. Our intent is to provide Ithaca-area educators with access to individuals who can speak from personal experience about the impact of the Holocaust on themselves, their family members or close friends.
By telling students our family stories, we try to bring a human face to tragedy, courage, survival and rescue during the Holocaust. Teachers and students have expressed great appreciation for our efforts and in every case, teachers have asked for our speakers to follow up in future years.
The entire creation of the program and its coordination is the work of Gale Halpern, a descendent of a survivor.
