A.J. Heschel, The Rebbe of Kotsk, and the Search for Truth.

Abraham Joshua Heschel

The great American Jewish teacher Abraham Joshua Heschel, raised in a Warsaw Hasidic milieu, was deeply influenced by the enigmatic Rebbe Menahem Mendl Morgenstern of Kotsk (1782-1859). Heschel's last book, written in Yiddish, richly documents the Kotsker's desperate bid to cut through falsehood to divine truth. Join us for this glimpse of Heschel's Kotsk.   The discussion will be led by Jonathan Boyarin, Mann Professor of Modern Jewish Studies at Cornell University.
