The New Initiatives Fund

Support for Local Klezmer Music

The IAUJC New Initiatives Fund was established to invite and support initiatives which enrich the Jewish community yet fall outside of the IAUJC’s usual allocations; the latter are usually made to local Jewish institutions (the Temples, Hillels, etc.) with funds raised through the annual campaign.

The New Initiatives Fund invites new concepts, projects, proposals for short-term, often time-limited projects requiring limited funding. We are particularly interested in plans that coordinate efforts among different segments of the population and bring new ideas to new audiences. Recent examples include a contribution toward bringing a Yiddish theatre ensemble to Ithaca; support for the Cornell Klezmer ensemble; improvement to the Jewish section of the local cemetery; and funding for the first Jewish Summer Camp Fair. Usual grants have been in the $500-$1,000 range, with the assumption that continuing needs would be considered through the annual allocation process.

Requests are considered by the board as received, with responses within a month. An informal chat with Howard Erlich, chair of the Allocations Committee, is welcome before submitting a Fund request. Contact Howard at info@iaujc.org.
